“An utterly devastating portrait of loss and fear, performed with shameless, bruised honesty… this record is beautiful, angry, heartbreaking and frightening and you should listen to Sunrise Over Europe immediately.” -God is in the TV

Minor Artists are proud to announce the release of ‘We Raised the Flames and Built a City on the Ashes’ on the 6th August 2012, the debut album from Birmingham post-rock band Sunrise Over Europe.

‘We Raised the Flames and Built a City on the Ashes’ is a driven, haunting record, veering from biting gypsy punk to immersive post-rock anthems. Recorded in a small rural chapel in mid-January, it sounds like a battle against England’s long winter, but its bleak, jagged guitars and funereal strings belie its vital, searching heart. It’s the sound of the roof collapsing in on us, but the sound of new seeds being sown, called to life by the tribal beating of drums.

Sunrise Over Europe draw on the grandeur of Explosions in the Sky but channel their sound through the restraint and songwriting nous of the current folk elite such as Beirut and Bon Iver. It’s a well-developed take on the genre, an invigorating addition to the legacy of England’s post-rock scene.
